SUSAN CLEARY GARRATT received the Frank and Emma McCoy Award for creating and organizing Planned Parenthood’s Voice for Choice, a grassroots group with a membership of 2,000 advocated for reproductive rights. In addition to her on-going work with Planned Parenthood, Garratt served for 17 years on the Board of Caminar, an organization devoted to enhancing the quality of life of the mentally disabled, and from 198901991 was the first woman Chair of the freedom from Hunger Foundation, whose goal is to empower women by lifting barriers that prevent them from obtaining adequate food and nutrition education for their families. Garratt has also been active with the PTA, the Women’s Sports Foundation, the County Task Force on Teen Parenting and the County Childwatch Project.
