Ruth Montgomery Jackson

RUTH MONTGOMERY JACKSON, when Director of the Speech, Language and Hearing Department of the Palo Alto Schools, including San Mateo County. She initiated one of the first programs for the hearing handicapped which involved educational and social integration with hearing students in a regular school setting. Other innovative accomplishments include creation of a TV program on speech improvement for children, and one of the Friends of the Library Board, in her home town of Atherton, she proposed and received approval from the City Council for addition of a children’s section to the Atherton Library, and she now heads the committee to raise the money to make the project a reality. In addition to many awards for her work in speech and hearing, she has been named “Outstanding Citizen of the Year 1990” by the Atherton Civic Interest League and received a resolution from the California Legislature citing her “38 years of service to the Children of California.”
