Elizabeth Linn Traubman

ELIZABETH (LIBBY) LINN TRAUBMAN, serving the community for 25 years, has worked with a variety of population including the elderly, families of retarded children, post-surgical and terminally ill hospital patients, and war veterans. As a full-time volunteer, she led the formation of Beyond War which, since the end of the Cold War, is known as the Foundation for Global Community. She helped organize the 1991 ground-breaking meeting for Israelis and Palestinians in the Santa Cruz Mountains, resulting in an historic signed agreement providing a model for recent peace negotiations. She co-founded monthly dialogues in her home between local Jews and Palestinians, continuing to discover greater mutual understanding of each other and the Middle East conflict. She also helped organize the 1993 Armenia /Azerbaijan Initiative conference held in Ben Lomond, sponsored by Global Community, the Stanford Center on Conflict and Negotiation, and the Carter Center. Since its inception in 1989, she has been a member of the Steering Committee of County 2000, a series of public forums and programs focusing on the future in San Mateo County.
