Sara Salsbury

Sara Salsbury is the founder and Executive Director of the Peninsula Youth Orchestra, an award winning organization which through her leadership provides a full range of instrument instruction for children ages 6 to 18. Sara is a long time music educator in various school districts. Her love and passion for music led her to a vision of creating opportunities for children of all backgrounds and abilities to have the joy of experiencing and performing music. The organization was started in 1997 with Mitchell Sardou Klein as the music director and Sara as the general manager and director of the orchestra. Through hard work and dedication in promoting, recruiting, and educating youth in the orchestra, membership grew quickly to an organization of 450 young musicians. Sara gives countless hours of her time, guiding students and sharing her love of music with them. The organization has collaborated and performed at events in the County, as well as around the world to places such as Japan, Australia, France, and Spain, among others. The growth and success of the program has been made possible by Sara’s tireless effort and motivation to enrich the lives of youth in the community through music. She has created a program of quality and breadth that helps young musicians flourish and contributes to the cultural life of San Mateo County.
