Marian Hemingway

In 1955, MARIAN Hemingway became the first woman to be elected to the San Mateo City Council. She initiated UNICEF program in local schools and churches, serving as Regional Director. Ms. Hemingway was President of the United Nations Association in San Mateo County and Chairman of the Peninsula Committee for UNESCO. She received a Memorial Award from the San Mateo Chapter of the ACLU, a Woman for Responsible Government Achievement Award, and a Human Investment Project Award for meaningful contribution in the field of human services. She has been a member of the League of Woman Voters for 52 years, a member of the American Association of University Woman for 35 years, and has served on the Board of the National Committee for UNICEF.
