Helen Raiser

HELEN RAISER of San Mateo. Ms. Raiser was the co-founder of Californians Against Handgun Violence and led the fight in northern California in 1981 to put a handgun control initiative on the ballot. She personally collected thousands of signatures and lobbied our state legislators sponsor legislation aimed at saving lives. The philosophy of Ms. Raiser can be best understood in these words “justice will only be achieved when those who are not injured by crime, feel as indignant as those who are”. She is a Board Member of Handgun Control, Inc., a citizen’s lobby located in Washington D.C. In addition to her commitment to the issue of handgun control, Ms. Raiser has volunteered years in our community as a Girl Scout volunteer, Peninsula Hospital volunteer, a volunteer at St. Matthews School, and has been active in the Parents Associations at four schools. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Junior Statesman Foundation and the a Family Service Agency of San Mateo County.
