Ann B. Benner

ANN B. BENNER, a San Mateo County resident since 1945, is currently a Special Assistant to Congressman Tom Lantos. In 1946, she was a founding member of the League of Women Voters of Central San Mateo County and has held many League positions. In 1951, she was a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of San Mateo and continues to play an active role in the church which now gives the annual Ann Benner Award for service to the church and community. She was chosen Woman of the Year by the San Mateo County Business and Professional Women in 1980. Other community roles include life membership in the NAACP; participation in the South Hillsborough Parents Group and the San Mateo Union High School PTA; three terms as President of the Peninsula Halfway House Board; and membership on the Boards of the Child Care Coordinating Council and Women for Responsible Government. She was named Democrat of the Year in 1975 by the Democratic Central Committee.
