Susan R. Ferren

SUSAN R. FERREN has demonstrated extraordinary tenacity, creativity, vision, leadership and passion for improving the lives of women and children in this county. As a Manager for Health Services and Human Services for 12 years, Susan has spearheaded numerous projects aimed at systems-change and community awareness. For example, Susan obtained over $700,000 from a local foundation for the innovative Violence in Families Initiative Program. She created the county’s first Stop Family Violence Walk and Family Violence Awareness Campaign. Susan spearheaded the first San Mateo County Children’s Report, Children in Our Community: A Report on Their Health and Well-Being, in 2000, bringing together 350 leaders and policy makers. She co-chairs the Family Self-Sufficiency Policy Team, and serves as Site Coordinator for the Fatherhood Project. Susan currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for Sor Juana Ines services for abused women and was awarded the Women in County Government Self-Development Award for San Mateo County. In addition, Susan is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern working toward Licensure and has held a weekend job since 1999 at a local hospital. As a single parent, Susan has been a Cub Scout Leader, Sunday school teacher, Room Parent, PTA Vice President, and Team Mother for baseball and soccer.
