Vera Pitts

VERA PITTS serves as a model of a woman who takes risks, works creatively, helps others and achieves leadership in business and community service. Since her retirement from Cal State Hayward as professor and Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership, she continues to be a mentor to both former students and to friends. Along with being an educator for more than 30 years, she was invited to work on many boards including a Mills/Peninsula Hospital Board, Family Service Agency, Bay Area Children’s Museum, Peninsula Civic Light Opera and Child Care Coordinating Council to name a few. Vera has received many honors and is profiled in Who’s Who of both American Women and Black Americans and Who’s Who In California. Three years ago, she was one of 19 Grand Jurors. Recently, Vera was a founding member of The Millennium Group. These are African Americans working to improve the lives of children and families in this Country. Vera has been First Vice-president of the California State Division of the American Association of University Women and President of the San Mateo Branch. She continues to be held in High esteem in this community and to enjoy the privilege of serving.
