Karen Chee

Karen Chee is a junior at San Mateo High School and an incredibly passionate, creative, intellectual young women with a contagious spirit dedicated to making a difference to the community. She has the ability to stand strong in her beliefs and ideas, is constantly striving for excellence, and maintains strong humility and gentle demeanor. She is the founder and organizer of San Mateo County Laugh-A-Thon, an event inspired by Red Nose Day in the United Kingdom to create laughter and enjoyment in the community., with 100% of the profits going directly to charity. Karen single-handedly organized the event by herself, from meeting with the city mayor, to designing the website, securing the venue and performers, and publicizing the event among other tasks. In Fall 2011, Karen joined the San Mateo County Youth Commission as a representative for the Art Commission. Her infectious humor and friendly nature made her an invaluable asset to the team. Karen’s presence in her community is just one of the many activities and interests she partakes in as a leader. She has been Class President every year since her Freshman year, Vice Chair of the Foster City Youth Advisory Committee, Club President of the San Mateo Chapter of the Junior Statesman of America, Founder and President of the Creative Math Club and the list extends on. In the midst of all her activities, Karen has managed to achieve a 4.84 GPA. There is no doubt we will be hearing more about his impressive young woman in years to come.
