JANET PARKER BECK of San Mateo. Ms. Beck is a health-science reporter for the San Mateo Times newspaper. She has been awarded prestigious honors for her work including: the 1986 National Fellowship from the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing; the 1986 St. Francis Award from the Catholic Archdiocese for a series of articles about the homelessness among the mentally ill in San Mateo County; and the 1986 California Press Women Communications First Place Award in health writing and personal columns categories. Since 1978 Ms. Beck has been the recipient of more than 16 awards. She has served our community with her insightful and compassionate writing. Ms. Beck is a member of Sigma Delta Chi, California Press Women, and Peninsula Press Club. She received her bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University with highest honors in journalism.
