SHERYL A. YOUNG, Executive Director of Poplar center since 1988, has generated an annual increase of $100,000 in contract work and has been instrumental in transforming the Center from a “sheltered” workshop environment to a thriving vocational training site. Her accomplishments include marketing two soup products developed at the Center to Safeway stores in California and Oregon; introducing a new program design to provide daily educational and vocational services to over 300 individuals at San Mateo and San Bruno sites; increasing early intervention services to cover 50 infants and their families; reorganizing management of over 100 employees and an annual $3 million budget. She has served on numerous boards dealing with developmental disabilities and was founding chair of MORE, a coalition of professionals and families recognized at both state and federal levels for its work in early intervention for handicapped and at-risk children.
