Madison Yates is an inspiration to her school and her community. She maintains a 3.76 grade point average in advanced placement classes at Capuchino High School, a senior class president and volunteers at her church. A member of Interact, Madison was chosen to help deliver wheelchairs to Mexico last summer. She represented her school at Girls’ State, volunteers in the soup kitchen at Glide Memorial Church on Sunday mornings, and brings her love of animals to her work with the Humane Society. Madison has been an AWANA Youth Leader working with 4th and 6th graders and has contributed to the school’s hurricane victim outreach. She plays guitar and clarinet, and was on the swim team. Madison’s achievements are remarkable for any young women, even more so in light of the challenges she and her sister have faced. At 18 months old, Madison was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and given only a five percent chance of survival. She, too, lost her father and experienced homelessness. Clearly, nothing will stop Madison. She is truly a Young Woman of Excellence.
