LISA WOLFKLAIN began her efforts with San Mateo County Battered Women’s Services in 1981, serving as volunteer coordinator, and convener of the Governing Board. As president of the Board from 1987-1992, she was the driving force in developing Battered Women’s Services into a vital community resource. Her accomplishments include a new organizational structure, establishment of a community office, high quality professional staff, an expanded children’s program, a $50,000 grant from the California Office of Criminal Justice Planning, a fund-raising auxiliary, and Speakers Bureau. She has applied her compassion for human rights and justice in the business world, developing a human resources program that has grown from five to 180 employees in five years. She has developed a product of wellness care and non-traditional health options. Her health care work has been written about in both the New York Times and the San Francisco Examiner.
