IDA SONENSTEIN of Burlingame, with her husband Phil, started the collection drive that now makes up a substantial portion of the budget for Peninsula Association for retarded children and adults. She has implemented the philosophy of Women’s American ORT (Organization for Rehabilitation Training) as a volunteer member for 31 years. Ida served as Chairman of the Day Camp for the Handicapped of San Mateo County for 12 years. Ida served as Chairman of the Day Camp for the Handicapped of San Mateo County for 12 years. She has been and is active in the council of Jewish Women’s Drama Group for 18 years, by participating once a week during the school year to present the productions to students. Ida has helped raise funds for the Jewish War Veterans group. She believes “volunteerism is very important and necessary in these days when the budget for directors, staff and other workers is limited.”
