Helen Hausman

HELEN HAUSMAN, at a time when academically trained women were something of a novelty, not only put herself through college, but did so after she was married. In San Mateo County, she served in PTA activities for 25 years, receiving numerous awards. She was elected four times to the Sequoia High School District Board, serving though the critical desegregation period. She is presently serving her second term on the San Mateo County Community College District Board. She has served as Board President and she is currently Vice President-Clerk. Following a trip to China with the American Red Cross, she chaired a Bay Area-wide Symposium on the Geneva Conventions and Humanitarian Law. She is presently chair of the San Mateo County America Red Cross Board of Directors. The Junior League appointed her as a Community Advisor to serve as a role model for young women being trained as community volunteers. She has been a spokesperson for gender equity issues with American Association of University Women, and has been a volunteer with the Children’s Hospital at Stanford, the California Curriculum Alliance, and Californians for Drug Free Youth.
