DR. LOIS PETERSEN CALLAHAN, Chancellor of the San Mateo County Community College District, began her career with the district in 1968 as a business instructor at the College of San Mateo. At CSM, she also served as Director of Cooperative Education and Dean of Instruction and, from 1978-1991, as President. She has been instrumental in restructuring important vocational programs in developing Vision 2000, the district’s master plan for the 1990’s. She has also helped plan and implement programs responding to the county’s changing population: the Mary Meta Lazurus Child Care Center, the Emeritus Institute for seniors; English As a Second Language Program for high-achieving students. She volunteers with the United Way, both on its Bay Area Board of Directors, and as chair of the county Leadership Council. She is also first vice president of the Mental Health Association.
